Virtual Eating Disorder Therapy For Men

Life doesn’t have to stay this way.

Is this you?

It’s getting harder everyday to keep up with life’s responsibilities. You’re exhausted all the time and can’t stop thinking about future meals or the parts of your body that you hate. You want to get help but you don’t know where to turn, and nobody seems to be talking about how prevalent these issues are in men.

You’re not alone.

Recent studies have shown that 25% of those diagnosed with an eating disorder are men, and that gay and bisexual men are at an even higher risk. Whether you spend hours everyday thinking about your body, limit yourself to a very strict diet, or find yourself purging after meals…I see you. I know it feels like you’re drowning and can’t find anything to hold on to. But I want you to know that recovery is possible for you. The journey to get there may be long with a lot of ups and downs, but you’re not someone who backs away from a fight. You have things worth living for - and you deserve to experience them with a sense of joy and freedom.

Therapy can help you:

  • Heal your relationship with food

  • Feel more relaxed and comfortable in your body

  • Recognize and push back against diet culture

  • Quiet your mind and live more in the present moment

  • Build stronger bonds with the people you love

What does therapy look like?

  • Developing coping skills to better manage thoughts and urges, identifying and strengthening social supports, and altering your environment to be more recovery-friendly.

  • Restoring and/or normalizing your eating patterns and movement routine and developing a more realistic and compassionate evaluation of your body.

  • Addressing the role of identity (race, gender, sexual orientation, body size, ability, SES, etc.), discrimination, bias, and trauma on your overall health and access to resources.

  • Exploring messages about food and attractiveness that you have been exposed to and have internalized across the lifespan.

  • Working to strengthen the mind-body connection so you can better ascertain hunger vs. fullness, your emotions, and your needs.

  • Targeting any other co-occurring mental health struggles you face.

  • Learning about important recovery concepts like Intuitive Eating, Health at Every Size, and diet culture both in therapy and between sessions via podcasts, books, and journaling.

  • Collaborating on building a treatment team (primary care doctor, psychiatrist, registered dietitian, recovery coach) that meets your recovery needs and preferences.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I specialize in working with Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, Orthorexia, and OSFED, as well as folks with body image issues and a history of disordered eating that has never been formally diagnosed or treated.

  • No problem. You don't need a formal diagnosis to start therapy, and during the intake process I will conduct a thorough assessment. If we determine that you may benefit from a higher level of care than I can provide, I will provide you with referrals and help you get connected.

  • It depends on your preferences, but I tend to use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

  • Absolutely! And if you don't yet have a team, I'll be happy to provide you with referrals for a psychiatrist, registered dietitian, recovery coach, and/or primary care physician as needed.

  • I approach my work from a non-diet, Health At Every Size (HAES), and intuitive eating framework. The research is clear that dieting and body-change behaviors don't work and cause long-term physical and psychological harm. Instead, I help folks heal their relationship with food and their bodies.
